Get to the head

To reach the plugs you’ll need to gain access to your bike’s cylinder head by removing the fuel tank and airbox, make a note of where any breather pipes or fuel hoses go so you can reassemble them easily.

Note the numbers

Make sure the ignition is switched off. Each plug cap should be numbered so make a note of which one goes where, then ease off the plug caps and remove. Disconnect the HT leads from the plug caps.

Get the right tool

Getting hold of the spark plugs requires a specific wrench that should be in your bike’s tool kit. Combine the key with a 3/8in ratchet and extension for easier access then remove the plugs in turn.

Be the boss

Some spark plugs require fitment of a boss on the terminal so check to see if your does and screw it on. Install plugs and torque to the correct value. Refit the caps and leads, and replace airbox and tank.
