‘Old boys have told us that we’ve restored their faith in the world’
Andy and Anna Porter are organisers of The Trip Out event, now in its sixth year
“Someone had to do it, because there are a lot of people out there into the old school chopper scene. We wanted the show to have a period feel in the spirit of the biker B-movies from the 60s and 70s, so we found a site and just started organising it. We really didn’t know what to expect; the first one felt like our own party but now people come from all over the world! It’s quite a close-knit, underground scene, but The Trip Out isn’t exclusive or elitist in any way – everyone gets on and it’s got a great vibe.
“A lot of work and a lot of love goes into organising it. We give away thousands of pounds worth of prizes as well as raising funds for charitable causes. Last year we raised around £3k with almost half of that going to the Air Ambulance. “Old boys have told us that by putting on The Trip Out we’ve restored their faith in the world. It’s unbelievable; the presents we get, the cards, everything – people really dig it you know? “It’s ace when they roll in on the Friday and you see bike after bike that you’d just love to take home. We’re so busy that there isn’t really much of a chance to talk to anyone, but we love making people happy and when they come up to us on Sunday afternoon to say that it was the best weekend ever, well that just makes it all worthwhile. “We’ve got a new site for next year, an old RAF base in Rendlesham Forest where they had a UFO landing in the ’80s. It’s in the middle of nowhere; one way in and one way out – it’s going to be mental!”
