Why is my ZX-6 sticking in gear?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Garage -

My 25,000-mile Kawasaki ZX-6R 636 gets stuck in gear between second and third. We’ve stripped the box and the return spring is in place, the ratios aren’t chipped and the selectors do not seem to be bent. However, there are three ball bearings on the gear selector shaft that should move in slots and one wasn’t moving correctly. George Hardwick, Woking

Answered by Cristian Ingignoli, Inmoto Those ball bearings can get stuck if the bike’s been standing, but I’d check the selector drum forks and selector spring. The drum has grooves for the pegs on the selector forks to follow and position the ratios for the next gear. If those grooves get notched that can cause the problems you’re describing.
