Will steel hoses af­fect my ABS?

I own a Yamaha Fazer 8 ABS and am con­sid­er­ing braided brake hoses. But I’m un­sure how this will af­fect the ABS as more brak­ing force would surely trip the sen­sor ear­lier. Terry Jones, email

An­swered by Si­mon Lane, Hel Per­for­mance Hy­draulic pres­sure is de­ter­mined by the de­sign of the mas­ter cylin­der, not the lines. Braided lines will give you more feel for less ef­fort, so it will be you who has to ‘up­grade’ to match the lines as you may find your­self trig­ger­ing the ABS in­ad­ver­tently by ap­ply­ing the same force you needed be­fore to get the same re­sponse.
