‘It’s exotica v practicality’
Considering their similar spec and intent, these two bikes are distinctly different.
The new Monster 1200S revives the stumpy, aggressive attitude of the original and blends in truly state-of-the-art electronics and genuinely racespec brakes, suspension and wheels. The result is a runty, hardcore streetfighter with limited steering lock and a nocompromise attitude you won’t want to ride for more than 50 miles at a go. But the Italian newcomer also has a sheen of quality, plus a 150bhp potency few bikes of this type get close to. That’s why, to my mind, it’s worth its £14,000-plus price tag.
