Gravel made Q me crash – can I get cash?
I lost the front end of my Yamaha Fazer on a mass of road gravel. Once out of A&E I called the council to complain and inform them of the danger to prevent another rider having a more serious accident. They said they would send someone out and the area was cleared up. The council’s “loss adjuster” wrote to me saying they are sorry but cannot be held to blame. They state the 1980 Highways Act which refers to a road survey conducted about two months earlier with no defects noted. The gravel at the junction seemed to me to be a build up over time and in places was 2cm deep and stretched halfway across the width of the junction.
