Andrea Iannone has impressed yet again on his new Suzuki, powering to an impressive top four finish on the opening day of the Sepang test.

However, the Italian says he hasn’t even got started with the potential of the machine yet. He said “The main thing is to try to build confidence as quickly as possible and find a good pace. It is very important to keep making comparisons between the standard 2016 bike and the 2017 one.

“It’s long work that requires patience, but we’re happy with the information we’ve collected. The relationship with the crew is very positive, everybody works really hard but the mood makes me very comfortable, I’d say my feeling now is really good.”

Team boss Davide Brivio echoed the sentiments of his new signing, admitting that at the minute the process both Iannone and class rookie Alex Rins were working on was as much data collection as anything else.

He said: “This is a good start, and the work with both riders has been positive.

“We are introducing many improvements and the objective of these three days has been to decide what is positive and what is ineffective, so that we get the right path to follow. We’re happy because Andrea confirmed the good feeling he has with the GSX-RR and Alex showed many improvements as well as more and more confidence.”
