Yamaha Racing boss Lin Jarvis says that the addition of the youth of Maverick Viñales to the experience of Valentino Rossi for the 2017 and 2018 seasons mean that the he now has his dream team.

“This coming season has the potential to be very exciting. Motogp is at a very high level and having six manufacturers present is exceptional.

“From our own selfish perspective, we’ve got a really super team with Valentino and Maverick. We have a living legend with an extraordinary career who’s been second the last two seasons and is super attractive for fans on one side of the garage, and the best possible hungriest young talent on the other side.

“We don’t underestimate our competitors; Jorge is going to be quick and we know that Marc is the reference point. It’s not going to be easy, but with the two guys we’ve got it couldn’t be better. It’s going to be exciting, and everyone is itching to go racing!”

However, despite having Viñales joining his team, Jarvis also told MCN replacing Lorenzo won’t be easy.

“If you lose a rider who’s brought you three world championships and who is still incredibly fast, it’s something to get over, and you have to fill pretty big shoes when you bring in a new rider. But Maverick coming into the team reminds me of when Jorge first joined – and he spent nine years with us and won us three championships and 44 wins. Maverick is just starting, he’s only 22, and there’s no reason why he couldn’t have a nine-year run with us as well.”

‘It’s going to be exciting, and everyone is itching to go racing!’
