Time to shine

Use a touch-up crayon to sort scuffs

Ditch the dirt

Clean the entire scratched panel thoroughly with good quality bike shampoo, then wash the bodywork again paying particular attention to the scratched area. Dry thoroughly.

Add some shine

Apply polish to the whole panel such as the mudguard we are working on here – not just the scratches. This will flatten the surface of the panel but highlight the damage you need to fix.

Get colouring

Apply the crayon (available from autofactors) at right angles to the of the scratch, filling the damage. Polish it off in the same direction it was applied. Now repeat the process.

Polish and buff

With the scratch filled, apply polish to the whole panel, leave to dry, then buff off with a clean mutton cloth. Apply a second coat of polish and buff again for a high, scratch-free shine.
