Honda’s main innovations at the Sepang test were largely under wraps, as the firm continues to experiment with a variety of different engine configurations. Both Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa spent most of the test on a series of ‘big bang’ engines derived from the one first tested at Misano, Aragon and Valencia at the end of 2016, with both Cal Crutchlow and Jack Miller also getting the chance to run some of the newer engines over the course of the three days.

However, all four riders also spent time with last year’s ‘screamer’ engine, as they did multiple back-to- back tests in an attempt to determine exactly what specification will be sealed (as per the rules) come the opening round of the series in Qatar.
