Launched in 1976 the Z900 was the first sig­nif­i­cant update to Kawasaki’s rev­o­lu­tion­ary Z1. Tweaks in­cluded the move to twin front disc brakes and im­proved in­stru­ments. Thanks to smaller 26mm carbs, power was ac­tu­ally slightly down at 81bhp (from 82) but flex­i­bil­ity was im­proved. It was the fastest su­per­bike of its day and would re­main so un­til the ar­rival of Suzuki’s first GS1000 in 1978.
