Enjoy a rollercoaster rider around Ripon
When the sun is shining, the Dales are among the most exhilarating places in the country to ride a bike with dips and dives, sweeps and swoops and views that have graced many a postcard.
Starting at Ripon, head north on the A6108 on a run that takes you through the brewery town of Masham, which is definitely the place to stay the night if you’ve had a long ride to get here.
After swaying out of Masham (we’re talking about the bends, not the postale walking style), look out for the historic Middleham Bridge over the River Ure and then take the next left turn onto Low Lane, which skirts under Leyburn and leads you to the A684 at Wensley. Turn left and enjoy the rollercoaster ride into Hawes, which is a corker if you time it to avoid peak traffic as overtakes here are tricky.
After grabbing a cuppa in Hawes, turn left after the petrol station to join the B6255 and another string of bends that weave through the Ribblehead valley. When you reach the big layby with views of the Ribblehead viaduct, take the left for a final waltz into Settle.
