WHAT DO THE RIDERS THINK?

REA “Coming from a sporting point of view, I don’t agree with the changes, but I understand that it’s a product, a business and we have to sell it to the outside world. I think it will be the same guys as far as results go, it might change the action in the race but I’m not sure it will actually change the final result.”

SYKES “It doesn’t really make sense; I feel it’s not great for safety as you have potentially faster riders coming from ninth place. Also, if you are leading and have a technical problem, you have to start the next race from at least tenth!”

DAVIES “I have no issues with it at all. I think that the diehard fans have a right to say that it does take away some of the purity of what we’re doing, but it’s only for one race. If you flick on the TV on a Sunday and see the guys who started seventh, eighth or ninth coming through to fight to win it could be pretty spectacular!”

CAMIER “I think it is pretty cool. For the top nine or 10 riders, everybody is obviously at a really high level, so it will be interesting. It will make it quite fun. I don’t think it will change the result that much, but there will be times when it will affect things. I am a fan!”
