WITNESS THE MOST INSANE OFF-ROAD ACTION IN THE WORLD
Extreme Enduro meets Mad Max when the Erzberg roars into life
Held in the biggest iron ore mine in Europe, the Erzberg Rodeo is the mother of Extreme Enduro events that has grown into a four-day festival of off-road motorcycling mayhem.
Everything about it is extreme from the quality of riders, terrain they have to ride over right through to the amount of alcohol consumed each and every night in the infamous beer tent.
Proceedings start on Thursday with a host of Extreme Enduro mini events and hill climbs, but the serious business gets underway on Friday where over 1500 riders get their chance to race 10 miles up the mountain in the Prologue. They get another shot at the Prologue on Saturday with only the top 500 riders qualifying for the main Hare Scramble event on Sunday.
The Hare Scramble simply has to be seen to be believed with the best riders in the world ascending and descending the side of the mountain. And it’s hard; really hard. In 2016 only nine of the very best in the world got to the finish. World class riders get chewed up and spat out by the mountain, bikes are broken, bones are snapped. But while it’s seriously tough up front, the real mayhem comes when the lowerseeded riders try to take on the mountain. So if it’s carnage you want just stick around near the start and you’ll see an almost endless stream of bikes and riders cartwheeling down the side of the mountain. O Info: Erzberg Rodeo, Eisenerz, Austria, June 15 to 18. From €55 for a four-day advance ticket . See www.erzbergrodeo.at
