Scarborough rocks when the star racers come to town

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Feature - Adam Child, Senior Road Tester

Oliver’s Mount is the last surviving true road race in England, it’s the only place in England where the best road racers take on such a demanding undulating track, elbow to elbow.

The track overlooks the picturesque seaside resort of Scarborough and attracts the very best road racers from around the world. Over the years we’ve seen the likes of Guy Martin, John Mcguinness and the Dunlops. The racing takes over the town and Scarborough turns into a mini Isle of Man for the weekend.

The track is comprised of public roads; there’s no run-off as riders top 185mph down the back straight and get huge air over the famous Jefferies Jumps. You’re close to the action, so close you can feel the rush of air as riders pass with their elbows in the hedges just a few inches from stunned spectators. It’s a conventional massed start and many fans flock to the first corner to witness the elbow-bashing. O Info: Spring Cup, Oliver’s Mount, April 22-23, from £25. See www.oliversmountrac
