110 YEARS OF THE TT 1927-1937 GUTHRIE & WOODS
The years between World Wars One and Two were dominated by Jimmy Guthrie and Stanley Woods. Hailing from Hawick, the same Scottish border town as Steve Hislop and Stuart Easton, Guthrie won six TTS between 1930 and his death in 1937. Irishman Woods (above) won 10, including three doubles.
Another milestone of the interwar years was Harold Daniell’s first ever sub-25 minute lap set on a Norton in 1938. The Londoner had such poor eyesight he was turned down by the army but it didn’t stop him setting the new 91mph record that stood until 1950!
