NEW SUPERSPORT 300 SERIES STARTS IN STYLE
Small-capacity racing history was made at Aragon when the first round of the new Worldssp300 FIM World Championship burst into life – complete with a two-part Superpole.
It features machines from Yamaha (R3), Kawasaki (Ninja 300) and Honda (CBR500R) and generally young riders, some only 15-years old. Revs are adjusted for each manufacturer to keep it fair and KTM are joining soon.
Organisers Dorna say it’s a lowbudget way to get into world title racing and already has programmes in place in some countries to help domestic talent onto the world stage.
Qualifying featured three different machines in the top three places, and the race result saw Scott Deroue (MTM HS Kawasaki) win from Daniel Valle (Halcourier Racing Yamaha) and Mika Perez (WILSPORT Raceday Honda) – again three different machines in the top three places. The podium riders were covered by just 0.127 seconds.
Deroue is a star in the making
