They might have been beaten by Brookes on a privateer bike, but the MCAMS Yamaha duo of James Ellison and Michael Laverty showed early promise at Donington Park, despite disappointing results.

Ellison led the opening race before dropping back, out of the podium battle, as he slowed due to an issue with engine braking.

“It’s been a frustrating weekend,” Ellison admitted. “Testing went really well so expectations were high. I felt surprisingly comfortable at the front in race one, but after eight or nine laps I started experiencing problems from our engine braking system and knew I was in trouble.”

Team-mate Michael Laverty also made a strong start in both races but was held back by chatter in race one before a technical problem ruled him out while third in race two.
