Scour MCN ads and deal­ers to un­earth for­got­ten heroes

As the ap­pear­ance of the spring sun her­alds the lat­est new mod­els ar­riv­ing in show­rooms, it is all too easy to get swept away in the ex­cite­ment and for­get about the ma­chines that just a few weeks ago were tak­ing pride of place. Pushed to the back of the show­room, th­ese brand new bikes are quickly over­looked in favour of the lat­est of­fer­ings – some­times for many years. So if you fancy rid­ing a new bike this year, why not look be­yond the 2017 me­tal and dis­cover some hid­den gems? With the help of Mc­n­bikesfor­ we searched out some sur­pris­ing new bikes that are great value for money.


Aprilia has culled a huge chunk of its range for 2017 in­clud­ing the Caponord, but you can still get a brand new top-spec 2016 bike for un­der £10,000 that comes with all the cut­ting-edge elec­tron­ics and even pan­niers. That’s a sav­ing of £3000! We even found a 2016 Rally Ad­ven­ture for £9495, which is £4000 off its RRP and it only has 25 miles on its clocks.


The Hyper­strada was dropped from Du­cati’s range for 2016, but In Moto and GT Mo­tor­cy­cles still have brand new 2015 bikes for sale for £8999. It has the old 821 en­gine, not the new 939, but comes with pan­niers. And if you want some­thing retro, check out Churchill Mo­tor­cy­cles (www. churchill­mo­tor­cy­ who have a new Mon­ster 696 for £6995.


The Pan Euro­pean has been over­shad­owed by the VFR1200 and Wheels Mo­tor­cy­cles (www. wheelsmo­tor­cy­ have a brand new 2014 Pan for sale for £14,699. If you want some­thing a bit sportier, there are loads of CB1000RS out there and Pad­gett’s (www. pad­gettsmo­tor­cy­ even have one that was pre-reg­is­tered in 2011 for £8699! Mean­while, Hunts Mo­tor­cy­cles have one-mile Va­raderos for sale at £7995 (www. huntsmo­tor­cy­ Com­pe­tent mo­tor­cy­cles for tempt­ing cash.


With the new Ninja 650 and Z650 ar­riv­ing, prices of the out­go­ing 2016 ER-6N and ER-6F have plum­meted. It’s easy to get a one-mile ER-6F for £5200, sav­ing £800 on its RRP, while the ER-6N is £1000 be­low list price at £4795. A 2016 pre-reg­is­tered Z800, trumped by the new Z900 model, can be had for £6599, £1300 off RRP.


If you want a bar­gain 2016 KTM Ad­ven­ture 1050, head to Cres­cent Mo­tor­cy­cles (www. cres­cent­mo­to­com) to save £2000 on its £10,999 list price. They have a pre­reg­is­tered one on sale for £9000.


You can get a 2016 GSR750 for £5999, sav­ing £1500, but some deal­ers have 2014 bikes kick­ing around! If you want an ana­logue GSX-R1000, the 2016 model can be yours for £9999, sav­ing £1399 on the RRP. Pad­getts have two 2003 Suzuki RF600S at £5895, both with one mile on the clock.


There are a few one-mile XJ6 Di­ver­sions around for £4999, the oc­ca­sional FZ6 for £5699 and a few VMAXS for £15,000, but the bar­gain is the XJR1300. Deal­ers are swamped with th­ese now Yamaha have dropped it from their range and you can get a 2016 pre­reg­is­tered bike for £7000, sav­ing £1499.
