Time for some skydiving

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week -

It’s finally happened! After 40 years of riding (mainly fair weather these last 30) I’m finally going to hang my leathers up. Why? Well it’s not through injury or the nagging girlfriend reminding me it’s dangerous every time I throw my leg over the bike, the reason I’m ending my love affair with the bike is the credit card people that have swamped the biking world. When I was a lad the motorcycle was a cheap form of transportation but now it’s a rich man’s pastime. The bikes I used to buy for a couple of months wages have become garage ornaments, for people who have a spare £10k to invest. I’ve recently had a complete brake failure on my BMW K1200. I complained to my local dealer and he said “yeah mate that’s a common fault”. I was flabbergasted to think that not only that the fault was common, but after 23,000 miles, this ABS fault was going to cost upwards of £1500 to put right! Maybe I’ll take up skydiving next, I can’t control the speed, but at least I’ll have wind in my hair. David Shaw, email
