Q Will too many short trips wreck my bike?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Garage -

I want to use my new Triumph Street Triple 765 RS to commute on, but I only live a few miles and less than 10 minutes from my work place and I’m worried the short trips will shorten my engine’s life. Joe Boddy, email

A Answered by Adrian Clancy, Total Triumph If you are doing lots of short trips the component most at risk is the battery. Any battery takes about 15 minutes’ riding to recharge it after a cold start, so invest in a trickle charger or two, for both home and work if practical.

If you can leave the bike running at home safely to get it up to operating temperature before you ride off that will limit any condensation build-up in the exhaust system or crankcases. Halving the oil change mileage intervals is good preventative maintenance too.
