HOW WE DID IT
Welcome to Rockingham, 1.94-miles of Northampton’s finest tarmac. It’s the perfect venue for letting our 1000s off the leash to see how they perform at the limit.
This sinuous snake of tarmac is actually the only anti-clockwise track in the country and has a technical mixture of slow corners, chicanes and flat-in-fourth sweepers. It also takes in two sections of the circuit’s sevendegree Nascar-style banking.
It’s extremely grippy in the dry, making it a true test of both tyres and chassis, and to evaluate stopping power there’s a walking pace hairpin you enter flat-out in fourth.
Electronics get a good going over with traction control and anti-wheelie working overtime to contain the fury of these two-wheeled missiles.
Our testers rode all the bikes during our two-day track bonanza, but to see which is quickest I rode each machine for five timed laps. We dialled the electronics to their raciest traction, wheelie control and ABS settings for our fast laps.
