R1S MARCH ON INTO APRIL
Yamaha duo Michael van der Mark and Alex Lowes were able to stick it to the top three of Davies, Rea and Melandri in race two in Spain. Helped by their front row grid position – earned by finishing fourth and fifth in race one thanks to 2017’s reverse grid regulations – they were able to fight with the Kawasaki and Ducati stars.
Despite good starts they could not break away, but were able to show they are the best of the rest.
Lowes ran off the track and dropped back with a tech problem while Van der Mark ran into front tyre issues.
Lowes told MCN: “In race two I felt really good. In some corners I was trying to save the tyre and maybe I could have challenged Marco for third.”
