It’s amazing. I thought it would scare the pants off me and it did in a way, but in a way that felt totally comfortable. Everything felt responsive, tight and crisp compared to my Blade. But my god it’s a quantum leap: brakes, acceleration, mid-range, handling, everything.

The engine is unbelievably smooth, especially the gear changes. I couldn’t get it to clunk despite trying. The throttle response is smooth and I kept it down in second and third a lot of the time to see what the grunt was like from 4000rpm to 10,000rpm. It takes off like a scalded cat.

It’s the first time I’ve ridden with electronics, but you don’t notice them. What hits you in the face is that when you twist the throttle it’s instantaneous. Braking is superb and I was going a lot faster in the corners than I would’ve been going on mine. It just inspires confidence.

It’s a lot more comfortable than I thought it would be. It’s so light and flickable – a few times I needed to change my line in the corners and I just leant it over further and it was fine. I’m still grinning from ear to ear. It’s stunning. If I won the lottery tomorrow I’d buy one immediately. I need one – now!

Nick is smitten and tried to make a run for it on our test bike!
