Haslam tests new engine spec
He might have stormed to a dominant double in the opening round at Donington Park, but there’s been no rest for series leader Leon Haslam, who was back out on track at the Leicestershire circuit on Thursday.
Having started the season with 2016 ZX-10R motors, the team have been working behind the scenes on the ’17 spec ZX-10RR engine and Haslam took a quick run out at lunchtime on Thursday to see whether the improvements seen on the dyno transfer to the track.
“We spent all winter working on the 2016 motor but the 2017 ZX10RRS didn’t arrive until a little while before the season so we decided to use what we knew for Brands,” he explained.
“Not wanting to mess about with engines in a race weekend, we booked a lunch session at Donington Park and all went well. It’s really positive on the acceleration side of things but there’s a bit of work to do on deceleration, especially with engine braking but we knew that as it took us all winter to get that right on the older spec motor.”
