Would Guy be a hero if he won the Zero?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week - ANDY CALTON

The TT always serves up amazing races and even more amazing tales of determination, bravery and commitment.

This year will be no different. Whether it’s Dave in a van with his three-year-old ZX-10R or Guy Martin making a shock return on a fleet of top-spec machines – the 2017 TT script has been started and the story is already intriguing.

While the main characters in the high-speed drama may be Ian Hutchinson and Michael Dunlop, the supporting cast could throw up a few surprises.

Few would begrudge Guy his first TT win, but what about if that happens in the Zero TT (see page 4). Of course it counts – damn right it does. But it’s not quite the same as a Senior or a Superbike TT win is it? Even Michael Dunlop admits he didn’t feel like he’d really arrived as a fully fledged TT star until he’d landed of the ‘ big ones’.

The Zero is over one lap and often has fewer than ten starters. Guy could well win on the Mugen and it would be an amazing achievement if he did, but it would be great to see him up front in the Senior TT, too.
