The RC30 may well be even more of a Honda icon than Fred­die. Cre­ated to com­pete in the new-fan­gled World Su­per­bike Cham­pi­onship just 3000 were built. Pro­duc­ing 118bhp from its 748cc gear-driven cam V4, the com­pact RC was a road bike pioneer packed full of de­lec­ta­ble touches from ti­ta­nium rods to quick-re­lease fork low­ers, to the sin­gle-sided swinger.

Be­tween 1988 and 1993, the bike won count­less honours, in­clud­ing WSB ti­tles, TT wins and for a very long time the out­right lap record of the Nur­bur­gring. Road bikes are still read­ily avail­able, but prices have shot up in re­cent years. You’re look­ing at £20,000 for an av­er­age bike now, and over £30,000 for a minter…
