New Blade is not yet cutting edge
Honda had it all planned out. 1. Bring out rip-snorting new Fireblade. 2. Win WSB with Nicky Hayden or newboy Michael van der Mark. 3. Win BSB after ending season Showdown strongly. 4. Win a few TTS with John Mcguinness and/or Guy Martin. 5. Twinkletoe it
on Honda’s ticklist.
But maybe, just maybe those two ticks carry the most weight. Bringing a ground-up new bike out that changes the way the world thinks about the Blade and winning road tests against your showroom rivals (MCN’S superbike shootout was one of those tests) is, arguably, what will sell you bikes. Van der Mark winning in WSB, not so much.
And the Martin-mcguinness double act will sell you bikes, whether either wins a TT or not. So, maybe Honda aren’t so ticked off after all.
