Today is a shakedown test to run everything in, check geometry and dial in the K-tech suspension. Despite having never turned a wheel in anger this racing Katana is pretty much bang-on straight away, as racing legend Whitham explains: “
“You’ve got to manage your expectations slightly when you jump on a bike like this, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. The throttle’s stiff because it isn’t ride-by-wire; it’s cables, springs, needles and slides. The brakes are miles better than I thought they would be and we’re only on two-piston calipers. The bike’s a lot lighter and shorter than I expected, so it steers nicer.
“The good thing is it looks like a proper a Katana. You don’t just want a doff of the cap to the past, you want it to look like the real thing.”
