Once the dust had settled on the Rea-davies spat MCN tried to find some calm, cool reflection... and failed!

Jonathan Rea ‘It is history now’

I understand he is frustrated, of course, and I would be frustrated, that is acceptable,” said Rea. “I tried to talk like a normal person but it wasn’t the time because he was completely in the red and frustrated. What is not acceptable is getting punched on the bike and we cannot set this example to young riders. I completely understand but we have to be careful because we are setting examples to young kids. I got a big penalty so it will be interesting to see if there are any repercussions after that. The first word I said to him in Parc ferme was sorry that I got in your way but he was very frustrated, for obvious reasons. I tried to remain calm and forget that, focus on the race and it is history now.”

Davies said ‘He just looks stupid’

“If I guy wants to stand there and deny, deny, deny when it is clear to everybody on the video what he did, he just looks stupid,” said Davies, long after the incident and race one had been completed. Commenting on what was said to be a punch on Rea’s arm out on track, he retaliated: “A punch… If he wants to see a punch I’ll show him a punch! Obviously I am joking, but it was more to get his attention. He was looking behind again, he was looking around to his left I think to try to avoid me. If you watch the replay he is looking the opposite way and I am saying ‘what are you doing man? You are cruising on the line and I am going for another fast lap on these tyres that are supposed to do three fast laps and see if I can do a better one.’ And he is there cruising. You just do not expect that from the world champ, but he obviously believes he is a cut above everything. I didn’t accept (his hand) because it took him 20 excuses before he admitted he was on the line.”

Ernesto Marinelli Ducati Corse

“I understand that Jonathan set the fastest lap but there were 11 people still on fast laps. For sure Johnny did not do it on purpose but at this level you need to be aware of that and be very careful. I think if you are on a cool down lap you need to make sure you are out of the way, if the chequered flag is not out.”

Guim Roda Team Manager KRT

“I think Johnny was riding without any intention of slowing down anybody. He received a penalty. I think Chaz hitting him on his ‘gas’ arm is a dangerous situation because it could cause the hand to give gas, or whatever. I can understand that Davies was angry but it is not justified to hit a rider on the track. So he should be penalised in some way similar to Johnny, if Dorna wants to show everyone it is being fair.”
