Hickman has the pedigree for success
Glenn Irwin will be hoping to follow in the wheeltracks of Peter Hickman, another BSB racer who has made a successful transition to road racing. Back with BMW power in Smith’s Engineering livery and on Dunlop rubber, Hickman is reunited for 2017 with the tools that have produced so much of his roads success.
The Burton upon Trent man first ventured on to the roads in 2014 and was an immediate sensation, setting the fastest ever newcomer laps at every international meeting on an Ice Valley BMW. He claimed his first international win at the 2015 Ulster GP and the 30-year-old went on to win back to back Macau GPS in 2015 and 2016.
After his record-breaking NW200 debut Hickman was forced to sit out the 2015 event because of injury. This will be only his third outing at Portrush, but after claiming podium finishes in the Supersport and Superstock races last year the BSB frontrunner must be considered one of the favourites.
Hickman will ride a Trooper Beer Triumph in the NW200 Supersport races, alongside Superbike and Superstock versions of the Smith’s S1000RR.
