What are the Q best wet weather touring tyres?
I run Pirelli Supercorsas on my Triumph Daytona 675, but I’m planning a trip to Ireland – and expecting rain – so I would like to fit some better all-round rubber for the trip, then refit the Pirellis on my return. I’m not a fan of Bridgestones as I did not like the feeling on the front with the last set. Willy Scott, email
A Answered by Bryn Phillips, Cambrian Tyres In order to keep your tyre costs reasonable, look at sports-touring tyres – that way you’ll have the best levels of safety and performance if it does tip it down. The tyres that fit that brief are the Continental Roadattack 2, Dunlop Roadsmart II, Metzeler Roadtec Z8 or Michelin Pilot Road 3.
I would say that the Contis and Metzelers will give you the best feel and the Michelins and Metzelers just about edge out the other two on wet grip, but we’re not talking big margins and any of these tyres will give you respectable all-round performance for even brisk touring.
