SWM Silver Vase 440

Urban scramblers are a hot ticket at the moment and the Silver Vase is SWM’S entry into this busy market. And they have done an excellent job when it comes to the styling. With its twin stacked pipes, fork gaiters, high bars and flat bench seat, the Silver Vase certainly looks the part.

Parked at the side of the road, the SWM really is a head-turner, but, like a few other Scramblers, the ride is slightly compromised by its off-road styled tyres. Like the Moto Guzzi Stornello, the Silver Vase uses Golden Tyre rubber that really ruins its road manners. In damp conditions the chunky tread leads to a nervous ride, while in the dry they squirm and move around unpleasantly. But that’s the price you often pay for fashion and let’s face it – the 440 looks fantastic, sounds great and is a very comfortable bike to ride. And at under £5k it is also temptingly good value.
