Discover Scotland’s beautiful highlands, and Eilan Donan castle
There’s something about riding in Scotland that makes those of us from other parts of Britain fall in love – and this ride is one of our absolute favourites.
The classic route is to hug Loch Ness on the A82 to Inverness, but the A87 cuts west at Invergarry and takes riders off the beaten path and on to a waltz of delight. The A87 is an A-road the like of which England can only dream. It’s smooth, flows and provides almost 90 miles to enjoy the ride without worrying about your next turn. It rubs alongside Lochs Garry, Loyne and Cluanie before shimmying up to Loch Druich for its final run towards Dornie and Eilan Donan Castle.
Six miles later, turn right on to the A890 for a pine-scented run to Strathcarron. The last chapter is a huge U-turn around the top end of Lochcarron, where our route finishes and you can prepare to push on for even more challenging missions.
