Bargain security

Save £££s on a brand new disc lock

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week -

Oxford Monster disc lock £50.59

This Thatcham and Sold Secure Gold approved lock is normally £69.99 but they are currently on sale. You could say it’s a bit of a steal… Puns aside, it has an 11mm hardened Ni-cro-mo steel alloy shackle and double locking mechanism. The body has a wider opening than some to make it easy to slot onto your bike’s disc.

Mammoth Security Shackle £30.99

Another one on sale at the moment, you’d normally be looking at £45.99. The lock has Thatcham security approval and uses an 11mm Cro-mo steel alloy shackle. It can double up as a padlock to work with a chain. The lock body is longer than some rivals. MCN Production Editor Simon Brown uses one of these on his Ducati Scrambler FT and finds it fits nicely around the cast spokes.

Abus Detecto £95

A pricey offering but more of a bargain when you consider it normally retails at £131.99. The extra cash pays for an ear-piercing alarm and a clever Snap’n’go design which means you can get the lock on quickly using just one hand. It comes with its own carry bag and better still, the batteries are included. An LED indicates that the system is armed.

Gear Gremlin 10mm Tempest disc lock £26.99

More of a basic design than the others here, but that also makes it more affordable and it will still act as a useful visual deterrent. If a thief is faced with two similar bikes, one locked and one left undefended, it is obvious which will be the target. It comes in red, bright yellow or chrome finish and has its own carry pouch, too.
