Back on talking terms
After the infamous Assen Superpole bust-up where Jonathan Rea and Chaz Davies spectacularly fell out, Imola showed that the tempers had now cooled when the two men shook hands after Davies’ race one win.
When MCN asked Davies if he and Rea made up after the opening race, Chaz replied, “I wouldn’t say we had kissed and made up but I appreciated that he shook my hand there, which was after all that has gone on after Assen, a nice gesture from him. I think that we both have to be men about it and move on.”
Sporting rivalries will always breed conflict though, as Davies noted: “We are the biggest competitors, so it is normal that we are not best of buddies and I do not think we will be as long as we are fighting against each other. I probably won’t be going for a beer with him any time soon, but I think the respect has to be there between us in racing.
“That is what I felt was missing in Assen, a little bit. As long as the respect is there then I’m happy and I’ll take my hat off to him when he wins. It was a nice gesture from him today.”
