Warm and position

Bring the engine up to operating temperature then kill the ignition. Put some workshop gloves on then position a large oil pan under the bike’s sump plug. Unscrew the plug and drain the oil.

Replace then remove

When the oil’s drained, replace the sump plug and torque it up to the correct value as per your manual. Now move the drain tray to beneath the oil filter and remove it using a suitable tool.

Clean and lube

Check your new filter is the same as the one you’ve removed. Clean the area, then lube the rubber seal on the fresh filter with clean oil. Spin it up hand tight, then add an extra half-a-turn.

Check your bike’s oil capacity then pour in a measured amount using a funnel. Once close to the right amount, stop and check the oil level in the sight glass. Start the bike and recheck. Refill if necessary.
