Warm and po­si­tion

Bring the en­gine up to op­er­at­ing tem­per­a­ture then kill the ig­ni­tion. Put some work­shop gloves on then po­si­tion a large oil pan un­der the bike’s sump plug. Un­screw the plug and drain the oil.

Re­place then re­move

When the oil’s drained, re­place the sump plug and torque it up to the cor­rect value as per your man­ual. Now move the drain tray to be­neath the oil fil­ter and re­move it us­ing a suit­able tool.

Clean and lube

Check your new fil­ter is the same as the one you’ve re­moved. Clean the area, then lube the rub­ber seal on the fresh fil­ter with clean oil. Spin it up hand tight, then add an ex­tra half-a-turn.

Re­fill

Check your bike’s oil ca­pac­ity then pour in a mea­sured amount us­ing a fun­nel. Once close to the right amount, stop and check the oil level in the sight glass. Start the bike and recheck. Re­fill if nec­es­sary.
