Wales or Whitby?

Three alternative coastal destinations make life a beach

More riding heaven from the Welsh mountains to the Whitby coast

Saint Ives, Cornwall

Saint Ives, on Cornwall’s northern tip, is bohemian-arty ( Tate Modern gallery), surf-cool (Porthmeor Beach), and boat-fishing busy (bustling harbour). And we can ride there on the A39, the great, 170-mile Atlantic Highway running across north Devon.

Ceannabeinne Beach, Durness

Ride the best 500 miles in Britain (see Inverness to Inverness), with a day in between lounging on crystal white sands and swimming in pure azure seas. Scotland’s northern edge is dotted with picturepostcard beaches along the famous North Coast 500 loop.

Anglesey Circuit, Anglesey

Anglesey Circuit has eye-popping cliff-edge coastal views to surpass Australia’s Phillip Island. It’s tarmac genius. There’s no trackday scheduled for this Bank Holiday but there is supermoto racing which is well worth watching – it’s the perfect excuse for a ride to north-west Wales. www. angleseycircuit.com
