Tyre war set to resume at TT
The rivalry heading into this year’s TT is more intense than ever before, but it’s not just Michael Dunlop and Ian Hutchinson going head to head as they set off on the Mountain Course.
The tyre war between Dunlop and Metzeler has only been heightened after both Ian Hutchinson and Guy Martin switched from Metzeler to Dunlop this year, with Hutchinson stating his switch to Dunlops is what he considers a necessity if he’s to beat Michael Dunlop in the Superbike and Senior Races.
However, Metzeler head to the TT on a high after a clean sweep of victories at the North West 200. In 2016, Metzeler locked out the podium in both the first Supersport TT and Superstock race, but with Hutchinson having now left the marque, their hopes are pinned on the likes of Rutter, Harrison and Hillier.
Pirelli Metzeler haven’t won a Superbike or Senior TT since Cameron Donald took victory for Relentless Suzuki in the 2008 Superbike race.
