Johnston leaves it late to find bikes after sudden split
Lee Johnston and Jackson Racing parted ways just days before the 2017 TT got underway, but the Northern Irishman has secured eleventh-hour alternatives.
He’ll ride a third CBR600RR for Clive Padgett alongside Bruce Anstey and Conor Cummins, while campaigning his East Coast Construction BMW S1000RR in the Superstock and Superbike classes.
“Padgett’s have a great TT pedigree so I am really looking forward to riding for them,” Johnston said. “I will race my East Coast Racing BMW in the Superbike and Superstock races. Hutchy did a 133mph lap on a stocker BMW last year and I haven’t gone that fast yet, so the bike is still faster than me.”
Johnston will also race a Ryan Farquhar-built KMR Kawasaki in the Lightweight race.
Having already announced Josh Brookes as a replacement for Mcguinness on the Supersport bike, the Jackson Racing team have confirmed Dan Kneen will ride their second 600, but are yet to find a rider to take on the exNicky Hayden Wsb-spec Fireblade Johnston was originally due to ride.
