‘Prizemoney is only paid to the top 20 finishers at the TT’

BSB rider is earning – never mind Jorge Lorenzo’s rumoured £5 million a year from the Ducati Motogp team.

Further down the field, however, that money drops off dramatically, but a consistent top ten finisher like Rutter would be aiming to take home around £15,000-£20,000 if he has a good week and no mechanical failures. His start money is probably more likely to be in the four figures, and while he’ll earn personal sponsorship from loyal sponsors like Bathams, he’s likely not earning a wage from the SMT team.

And even further back, Hewson will be lucky to take home any prize money at all, as it’s only paid down to the top 20 finishers in every race. He also won’t be getting any start money from the organisers (although he might get a little bit of help with his travel costs) – and never mind earning a wage, he’s had to take holidays from his day job just to get to the TT!
