It was an emotional weekend at as the paddock met for the first time since the tragic loss of Nicky Hayden last week. The Red Bull Honda rider was honoured throughout the weekend, not least with all riders running a #69 sticker on their bikes with others also donning Hayden’s trademark number on their leathers.
Hayden’s former Honda teammate Michael van der Mark wore a special helmet in tribute to the 35-year-old, while fellow American PJ Jacobsen ran in a Hayden replica lid in Sunday’s Supersport race.
The Red Bull Honda team set up Hayden’s bike in the garage so people could pay respect, and thousands of fans joined the paddock on the grid for a poignant minute’s silence on Saturday afternoon. See p76-81.
