Birchall brothers set new record
Mansfield brothers Ben and Tom Birchall became the first sidecar team to break the 117mph barrier as they set a new lap record for the threewheelers on their way to victory in the opening Sidecar TT.
They set the new outright lap record of 117.119mph on their IEG Racing Honda on the second lap of the race to take their fifth Sidecar TT victory. They also set the fastest speed ever recorded by a sidecar at 148.1mph on the Sulby Straight.
“The bike’s good, the team is good, it’s all there,” Ben smiled as they celebrated their landmark victory.
John Holden and Lee Cain were second on the Silicone Engineering Honda, 25.6 seconds behind with local favourites Dave Molyneux and Dan Sayle third, 18 seconds behind.
