PASINI MAKES IT THREE
Mattia Pasini has made Italian hearts sing with an incredible last-lap Moto2 victory in his home race, making it a perfect day for the Italian fans with all three races being won by home riders. His victory ends a win drought that has lasted since 2009 and led to high emotions for the 31-year-old who has overcome adversity in recent years.
One of the paddock’s well-liked veterans, Pasini is lucky to even be able to race – severe nerve damage means he races a specially adapted machine that sees him control both the clutch and front brake with his left hand.
But that didn’t slow him down on Sunday as he set up a perfect last lap overtake on Alex Marquez to break the Marc VDS team’s perfect record this season – and to finally be able to dedicate a podium to his great friend he beat to his last win, Marco Simoncelli.
“I’m still here! It wasn’t easy coming back, but it’s great to be still here and to come back here in Mugello of all places. To be here today is a good job, I think! I dedicate my win to Sic, because without him here pushing me for all these years, I don’t think I would be here today.”
