They were achingly beau­ti­ful but the mar­ket sim­ply wasn’t ready as sports­bikes were all the rage and the Sport­clas­sic range was a fail­ure. What’s hap­pen­ing now Du­cati pre­empted the retro craze by about eight years and, hav­ing bot­tomed out, used Sport­clas­sics now sell for more than their orig­i­nal new price, es­pe­cially the stun­ning yel­low Sport café racer.
