Hickman closes in on win
Peter Hickman made it three podiums from three starts in 2017 in the Superstock race.
The Smith’s BMW rider claimed second spot behind Hutchy after making a fast start that put him third at Glen Helen on the opening lap, just 0.3 seconds behind the Tyco BMW man.
“I must have got out of the fast side of the bed this morning,” the BSB star joked.
Like Hutchy and Kneen, Hickman also had electronics issues during the race. “On the first couple of laps it started cutting out a lot and I couldn’t figure out why but for some reason it cleared itself.”
Hickman’s cause was also helped by a slick pit stop and the 30-yearold’s TT progress this year means he is now the man most likely to challenge the dominant duo of Hutchinson and Dunlop. “Hutchy has been riding mega all week.” Hickman said. “He is always really fast on a Superstock bike and that is the third year in a row he has won that race so he was always going to be strong but it was nice to be somewhere near him, especially at the start.”
