Ian Hutchinson is believed to have broken his femur on the same leg he injured in his 2010 crash at the Silverstone BSB meeting after sliding off his Tyco BMW at the 27th milestone during the Senior TT. Early indications are that the break is higher up on the leg and has not damaged the old injury.

Hutchinson was lying second to Peter Hickman on the Smith’s BMW as they climbed the mountain on the second lap of the Senior race. The winner of the Superbike and Superstock races at TT 2017 had been locked in a split-second battle with Hickman from the drop of the flag.

After the crash, which forced the organisers to red flag the race when the air fencing was dragged into the road, Hutchy was flown by helicopter to Noble’s hospital. He is understood to have returned to the mainland to be treated by the surgeon who operated on his leg in 2010.
