‘I used my superstock bike to finish fifth!’

Veteran Michael Rutter brought his 2017 TT to a close with a fine finish in the Senior on the Bathams SMT BMW.

That performance was the final act in a good week for the 45-year-old that saw him take victory in the Lightweight race on the Paton, his first TT win on a petrol bike since 1998. He also had a fifth place in the Superstock race and a sixth in the Superbike event.

“I was really struggling with the gear-change in the first start so the red flag did me a favour and I was able to change bikes and jump on to my regular superstock bike that I use on the short circuits,” Rutter explained after the Senior.

A final lap of 131.709mph saw him finish less than a second behind James Hillier’s Kawasaki ZX-10RR.

Smooth and spectacular, Rutter gets faster with age...
