DIGITAL DIRT DEVILS
Yamaha have completely overhauled the YZ450F including a new engine, frame and bodywork as well as adding wi-fi connectivity that allows you to change the bike’s fuelling using an app.
The reverse-cylinder 450cc engine has been modified heavily including a new lightweight cylinder head, new cam profiles, new crankshaft, new lightweight electric starter and higher compression piston. The position of the engine has also been moved to improve weight distribution in the frame and improve cooling. The biggest change is the release of the new Power Tuner smartphone app, which allows riders to connect their phone to their bike and make instant changes to the fuel and ignition maps.
Yamaha have also created a new bilateral beam frame that they say increases rigidity while improving mass centralisation. The seat is narrower and flatter to make a slimmer and more compact body, which is helped by the slimmer 6.2 litre fuel tank.
We can also expect two special edition enduro race bikes inspired by Yamaha’s enduro team. All three models will be available in August.
