Rossi gets Zarco’d again
Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rookie Johann Zarco has run foul of fellow Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi for the second time this season after the pair tangled during the opening laps of Sunday’s race.
The first contact was during a similar incident at the Circuit of the Americas in only Zarco’s second race. This time an overtake on Rossi resulted in contact between the pair – and Rossi was less than complimentary after the race.
He said: “I’m starting to think that he isn’t a bad guy, but that he just doesn’t understand the size of the gap between bikes! Like in Austin, he tried something impossible, because I didn’t go too wide, I just rode my normal line. You have to take into account the other’s line when you try to overtake. He’s aggressive, but this is Motogp and everyone has to be aggressive!”
While downplaying the incident afterwards, Frenchman Zarco admitted that he went from hero to zero in only a few laps during Sunday’s Dutch TT, leading from his pole position and setting the pace for the opening 11 laps before deteriorating conditions forced him to back off.
“I was nervous about crashing because we are on the limit anyway but when we see rain, it can be scary. I could not push anymore with the slick tyres, so I took the decision to swap bikes. In the end, it didn’t rain enough to make a difference.”
